One of my main goals for 2018 is to get outside more. Embrace the great outdoors, get some fresh air in the old lungs, and enjoy the gorgeous countryside that is just a short train ride away from Manchester. Continue reading
I’ll be completely honest, when planning our Summer holiday this year we only really had one essential criteria for our destination. It had to be cheap. We both decided we wanted to get out of the UK but our budget was limited, so we started looking for somewhere that included travel and accommodation, for around £250 each. Continue reading
One of the best things about spending the run up to Christmas in Manchester is being able to visit the famous Christmas markets, which are dotted all about the city centre. Which is exactly what a few of us did the other evening when we popped along to Albert Square by the town hall. Continue reading
We embarked onto our train at Oslo station and settled in for a long journey across the width of Norway to our next destination – Bergen. The train journey was incredible with some spectacular views as is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful train journeys you can take in Europe. Sadly our camera battery was running desperately low but I managed to catch this snap on my phone. Continue reading
After a few days blissful days in the countryside we decided to make the 45 minute bus journey from the cabin in Enebakk to Oslo. We’d been told about the Oslo Pass by our host Thove. It’s a great money-saving way to see all the sights Oslo has to offer and includes free entry to many of Oslo’s museums and attractions. You can Oslo (also) get discounts on selected restaurants and cafes and free public transport throughout the city and beyond! Continue reading
The following morning, making the most of the warm weather, we decided to explore the forest surrounding our cabin. We took off up the old ski run and followed the winding path through thick woodland.
Having had a restful nights sleep in our cosy cabin in the woods, we decided to take up our brilliant host Thove’s offer of hiring bicycles for the day. She gave us a real good deal and it only cost £35 each for the 1st day and £5 more for any other days we wanted to make use of the bikes. Continue reading
You may be asking yourself, what is a blog called The Manchester Tart doing writing about Norway? It has nothing to do with Manchester! Well you’d be right, it doesn’t. But it is well within easy reach of it. Not only was I surprised but albeit delighted to discover that with a quick and cheap Ryanair flight (£25.99) from Manchester Airport I could be in Norway in 1 hour and 20mins. Surely that sort of information deserves sharing especially when you find out what’s waiting for you on the other end – ladies and gentlemen, come with me to Norway.
